Curbside Recycling FAQ
Q: How much will curbside recycling cost?
A: $3.00 per month (about a dime a day).
Q: What if I don't receive City Water or live in an apartment with no Curbside recycling?
A: Citizens who do not receive Norman water, and thus have no utility bills, will not have curbside pickup and will not be charged for it. Also, apartment dwellers who do not receive curbside pickup will not be charged.
Q: Will I have to separate out the recyclables for pickup?
A: No. You will place all items in the same container.
Q: Will there be a second pickup day, one for trash and one for recyclables?
A: No. Your trash day will also be your recycling pickup day.
Q: Do low-income citizens qualify for a discounted rate?
A: Yes. Please call the City of Norman for details (329-1023).
Q: What will be recycled?
A: Waste Management will take newspaper, magazines, telephone books and white office papers, aluminum, plastic (1 & 2), steel, tin, and glass.
Q: What are the containers like?
A: Waste Management will provide an 18 gallon plastic container. With the $3/month charge, the containers are furnished. The customer may have to pay if the container is destroyed, damaged beyond use, or lost. Llids and wheels are available for an extra fee.
Q: Can I recycle lids?
A: No, please remove lids from containers and throw the lids in the trash (they are usually made from a different material than the rest of the container). Also, please rinse the containers out before you put them in the recycle bin.
Q: How will my recyclables be picked up?
A: Sanitation workers will go through each bin by hand and sort the material into the truck. For their safety, residents shouldn't put dangerous items into the bins.
